7 Keys to Walking with God

1. Admit you need a Savior from sin.

  • God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

  • If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

2. Surrender to His will.

  • If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. (Luke 9:23)

  • I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

3. Learn about God from the Bible and as seen in Jesus, specifically.

  • I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11)

  • The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (John 1:14)

4. Pray (talk to God) about everything.

  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)

5. Cultivate an attitude of thanksgiving and praise.

  • Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thess. 5:18)

  • Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. (Psalm 100:4)

6. Learn to walk by faith and hear God speak.

  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Prov.3:5-6)

  • My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27)

7. Seek to live a life shaped by God’s love and grace–both to you and through you.

  • Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossians 3:13)

  • He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

  • But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
